Frozen

Ice and snow does tend to muffle sound, but it feels deceptive somehow. Nature feels so much more active to me when it’s taken over by winter. It’s always changing. Maybe it’s all in the thawing.

This Pittsburgh lake (in North Park) is one of my favorite spots to take the kids in the winter. They are mesmerized by all the shapes and forms the ice takes on the water, and they collect shards of ice in snow piles along the shore.
